As we are well into autumn and rapidly approaching winter (where has this year gone?) we are starting to get some new handmade stick designs in for the festive season, which would make lovely gift ideas for friends and family that enjoy getting outdoors into the countryside all year round.

These handmade country sticks are full of charm, and have been handcrafted to provide a unique stick that the user will love for years to come. Two of the Shepherds' Crooks we feature in our blog today have delightful handles that have been carved into the shape of animals, providing a fun twist on the usual Shepherds' Crook design. The other is a thumb-stick that can be unscrewed in the middle, making it easy to transport - ideal for those who like to travel and need some portability from their stick!

Handmade Salmon Shepherd's Crook on Hazel Shaft

The stylish Shepherd's Crook features a carved crook handle in the shape of a leaping salmon mounted on a beautiful hazel shaft. This is a long stick that comes to around shoulder height. The shaft is made from the traditional country wood, hazel, which is prized for its interesting sheen and colour. The handles are made from a variety of hardwoods, each piece chosen for the beauty of its colour or grain. Left with a natural bark finish for that authentic country look.

The dimensions of the walking stick are:

Staghorn Hazel Thumbstick, Two Piece, Jointed, Extra Long

This is a Two piece Hazel Staghorn Thumbstick that has a screw joint in the middle of the stick. Beautifully finished hazel makes this a very smooth and elegant stick, and is slightly longer than normal at approx 160cm long, so would suit people of taller stature. It unscrews into two 80cm-long sections - ideal for transportation. It also comes fitted with a combi ferrule.
